Does the filename matter? I would have guessed all files in the relevant

I mentioned this in an earlier post, that it uses a slimserver function to read the directory. One aspect of that function is that it takes in argument to specify valid file types. For example, I dont want to list mp3's, or hidden dot files if they are found in that directory.

Currently (the name is a bit silly because it is an iteration of
attempts to get a script) there are two files in the ~/Public?scripts
folder, one called sleeperunix2 and the other called sleeperunix2 copy.

well, I'm unsure about the effects of the space in the filename, but I'd certainly expect the first one to show up.

So Get Info and ls -l are showing different settings for the group,
which seems odd to me, but may be the source of the problem.

I am not yet familiar with the deeper workings of osx. I do use an ibook, and a run slimserver on a linux box, but I have yet to dig into the quirks of the interaction between the underlying BSD and the OSX Gui. You could be onto something, however. I'm not sure how slimserver would react to either set of permissions, specifically. I still have no idea why you saw it working once and never again.
