Yup - I'll clarify the installation instructions to state that rescan not necessary after first install/rescan.
I had thought about the plugin having a look in the database when it starts up to see if it needs to do anything, but was worried that there might be a timing issue with doing this "too early" while slimserver is starting. I'll have a try, though, and see what happens. If that works, you wouldn't have to do that initial rescan, but it might take a few more seconds for the server to start up. Would it be better instead to have a button in the plugin settings to tell your plugin to go and do its first scan, or even a rescan if somehow we know that we have added new data that the plugin might not have seen coming?
