Oss, looking at the trace it tries to connect to the Radio1 station but then your RSS feed kicks in. I'm not sure if it is relavent but this reports "Couldn't resolve IP address for: news.bbc.co.uk" - is it possible that you have a firewall that is blocking the Radio1 stream?
For some reason piping output to a file doesn't work from the slim.exe (or even running from Perl) - I wish it did as it would make this much easier.
