This may be my reason for trying to learn Perl. Just so you know, I use Linux as well. Ubuntu to be exact. And just today I saw that there is a beta release for MMM that will work without requiring Java or X. I haven't tried it yet, but it's a much desired feature. Currently it's the only reason I have X running on my slimserver box. I absolutely LOVE Music Magic Mixer. If you haven't tried it, you may want to give it a shot.
