The SlimCD based Slimserver for my parents is a complete success - they
especially enjoy the AlienBBC plugin and have already been using it
this morning (on their own, bless 'em!) :)

I've got a spare machine (another Compaq SFF) so will have a look at
the SAMBA option when I get a chance, or the script to wrap around
FileZilla with which to mount/remount the file system.

Can I suggest if you significantly upgrade SlimCD 1.5 to another
version of DSL that you use a new version number for the new SlimCD ISO
- ie. v1.6? Or add a revision identifier to the SlimCD 1.5 filename such
as SlimCD 1.5b3 (I've already got ISO's of SlimCD 1.5 b1 [November] and
b2 [December]!)

I came across the "volume decreasing" bug when at my folks, I've had
trouble pinning it down but it seems to be some wierd interaction
between the VolumeLock.pm/VolumeGuard.pm plugins and AlienBBC. With the
aforementioned plugins present in the Plugins directory (and disabled in
Slimserver) a stream played through AlienBBC will automatically reduce
the volume from 40 to muted in under 2 minutes. After removing these
two plugins all appears fine - not sure which plugin is actually
causing the problem, and it only appears to be affecting streams played
via AlienBBC. Will investigate further when I get the spare SFF up and
running.
