I did a test transcoding from RTSP -> WAV -> MP3 using both file and a fifo and the duration data was kept.
I think the real issue is that rtsp is considered a remoteURL by slimserver using a pipe and I believe slimserver doesn't look for the metadata if the source is a pipe.
