Would my original scenario be viable if I installed additional RAM, or would you still recommend a different approach?
SlimCD just needs a lot of manual work if you really want to use it headlessly. There's eg. no Samba configuration - therefore no way to access the machine on the network neighbourhood withoud manually configuring it. It's an interesting thing, but a hard way to go for a beginner.
