        Oh, I was in perl-to-shell-escape mode and all I could think
        about was backslashing it.  Thanks for that.

        Now that my file appears to be working, perhaps I'll go back and
        re-add those lines.  It removed quite a few of them.

        That doesn't explain the errors with the equal signs, does it?
        Wait, I bet it does.  I can try changing it to &#161 or
        whatever.
