Well, that certainly would be an option. But it's a pity that would be needed. From all the googling I've done it seems 10.7 _should_ work. I'll try to figure out more. No way to update the machine to a newer macOS? (But then I can't even say whether 10.8 would behave any better... I'm at 10.11 and more recent on all my machines...)
