That suggests to me that you haven't got them started up in the right order.
MusicIP needs to start first, then Slimserver. The easiest way to do this is probably to stop Slimserver from the system tray. Then start up MusicIP with the api running, then restart Slimserver. Do you see the option now ? IMHO, installing MusicIP as a service is the easiest way to ensure it starts up in the right order all the time, but you then generally have to run it from the webui (http://localhost:1002/ or http://localhost:1002/) rather than using the application itself.
