I now strongly suspect that this issue relates to my carrier's rollout of Android 8.0 to my phone, which eliminated AVRCP 1.3and default to AVRCP 1.4. I further believe that Andrid 8.1 restores AVRCP 1.3 to Developer Options. I don't know when or if my phone will get Android 8.1.
It would be useful to confirm Bluetooth Controls are working properly for devices running AVRCP 1.3, and not working properly for devices which are not.
