Seems as though the standard daemon checking does not detect the connection issue but the "monitor connection" process does.
That's correct: standard checking only checks whether the process is still alive. But there obviously are systems where the daemons might be running, but no longer seen by Spotify. That's what the "monitor connection" check would verify.
