When you make a player, you have to click the "apply" button as well.
You can rename the players by accessing to their individual properties
in the plugin list (see the dropdown box that says by default "common
parameters". Having said that, if you change the name under LMS'
settings, it should be retained.

Now, for clarity, it's not because a player appear in the list in the
plugin's settings that it's accessible. Think about the plugin's
settings UI as an editor for the configuration file and the
configuration file does not decide which player is created in LMS or
not. Instead, when a device is detected, the application does a lookup
in the config file to know what settings to apply.
