To briefly explain my set-up (with apologies for boring you!):
- all my tracks are FLACs (even MP3s which I convert to FLAC for compatibility of tagging and replay - yes - I know the sound is no better) - most of my music is classical - as a result I don't use the tags from the web, but always set up all my own, because the web tags for classical are rubbish - and I have had to add new tags 'work', 'movement' and 'work artist' so that albums can still be albums, but can contain sets of tracks in a classical work - the track title is formed by concatenating work and movement - erland's custom browse and custom scan enable this to work brilliantly in LMS - far better than any other music server I have yet found - but it's quite a bit of work to set up and tag - album artists have to be active on all tracks, but I am selective about who counts - I can have several but always as separate tags - never as one long string - artists (track artists) are just those on the track, including album artists unless they have another role such as conductor - there are some pieces with multiple composers (who may also be album artists or artists in a few cases where they also take part in the recording) - conductors could in principle be multiple, and may also be artists in a few special cases, and/or album artists - bands can be multiple, and may also be album artists if important enough - my work artists are key players in all movements of a work And so on. In principle being able to create my own titles would be good, but I don't expect that, particularly the use of non-standard tags. Some of the things the skin adds (like ratings and technical info) I have added myself in the default skin. So the plot as now, showing all instances of all of the tags, and excluding duplicates, suits me fine. If I ever had an album with multiple Album Artists who were not also Track Artists, I would want to see them all - why not if duplicates are removed? As I said in my previous post, I have never contemplated have one tag with multiple comma-separated artists in it, and cannot ever imagine why I would want to. Is it because that's what the web databases say it should be? I hope that helps explain where I'm coming from, at least a little.
