I suggest you report this on the spotty thread, or create an issue on LMS's github page. As stated, the same API call is used by Material and the fact that spotty installed seems to cause the issue. Why I don't know, but I'mm 99% sure this is not an issue with Material. Perrhaps LMS is ignoring the role_id for artists from online services? *Material debug:* 1.
