I checked back and everything looked ok...frustrating...
I returned to the NAS and gave read access to everyone I could see....no
difference.

What finally cracked it...I went back to the squeezebox, selected music
folders and tried selecting one of the actual music folders on the nas.
Nothing happened...for a couple of minutes, then as if by magic (!) it
started playing and I could see all albums and artists etc for that
folder. Selecting the actual folder from the squeezeboz seems to kick
off the scanning process in LMS. So I selected one by one the other
folders ... waited a few minutes, and now all artists and other info is
available and the LMS is working perfectly.
Thanks for all your suggestions, and I hope this helps someone else in a
similar situation.
