What you're saying is true, though I still don't understand why only the LMS gui fails and everything else works.
Because LMS probably is the only application using the IO::Socket::SSL library. A mobile app can talk to those servers directly, if it's implemented that way. But your log file showed me that LMS would fail to connect to many different https sources, and it's using an outdated version of that library.
