Thanks for the tip. I changed over to a USB Ethernet adapter for my Lenovo laptop and it has fixed the issue. Thanks a lot. This has driven me crazy. However the chipset is likely different as the old laptop is about 7 years old whereas the new one is less than a year so chances that it's software related (e.g. Windows, others etc.) is high.
