There are plenty of bugs/enhancement requests that have been made in the past for FF/REW. I actually like the behaviour, but other suggestions have been made. Have you tried KDF's song scanner plugin (can be found at http://www.deane-freeman.com/slimserver)? It allows you to set the playback position using a slider bar (like changing the volume).
