Just to close this thread off - we worked through this off-list and it appeared to be a problem left when a Windows installation was upgraded from SlimServer 7 to SqueezeCenter 7. As this happened in the first day or two of that change to the Windows installer I think it was one of the migration problems that's already been tackled in later updates to the installer.
