SqueezeCenter looks for a MusicIP connection on startup. If you
start both as services, you cannot guarantee that MIP is up and
running before SC.
I run MIP as a service all the time, both on windows and linux, but I
specifically set SC to run after MIP in linux, and I run SC manually
on windows. There are ways to run both as services, and a search of
the forum should reveal other discussions on that matter.

There is nothing wrong with running MIP as a service as long as you
properly start SC after. However, if you are having problems with
the MIP service staying available, then that might explain why you
get getting mix errors and lost scan data on subsequent scans. You'd
have to take this up with Predixis. You can always check on the
service by checking on the MIP web access. http://serverip:10002/server
