I have exactly the same problem, but using Debian and the nightly debs. I also dropped the plugin in /usr/share/squeezecenter/Plugins (where I have other plugins working such as SqueezeScrobbler), and have tested putting them in /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Plugin/, but I have never gotten AlienBBC and version 7 to work together. I have tried to get some debug output from it, but it has not given me any clues at all what could have been wrong.
