Hi Colin,

I've been thinking about something very similar - so I'd be interested
in collaborating on something like this (time permitting, as always!).
I've some experience writing plugins, so I can help with that.

Instead of dealing with the vaguery of badly-tagged files, I started
with something much more reliable: importing a CD directly into the
library. I currently have prototype code which rips-and-flacs a CD,
tags it using MusicBrainz data, grabs album art off Amazon, moves the
ripped music into the music directory and triggers a scan of that
directory. It's by no means ready for prime time - very much
proof-of-concept stuff! I've been meaning to tidy it up a little and
then ask for comments on the Developers forum. It's Linux-only at
present, because it calls out to the command-line for various
operations; if you're on Mac and Windows this might not quite appeal to
you.

The idea of a drop directory is something I thought I'd tackle once I'd
got CD importing working well - so sometime around 2015 :) The
difficulty of getting the tags right in the general case (and dealing
with potentially many different file formats, etc.) scares me somewhat.
But there's obviously some overlap between the two problems.

I'll try to get my prototype code good enough for other people to look
at soon, hopefully this evening but no promises! In the meantime feel
free to email me ([EMAIL PROTECTED]@com swapping . and @).

Cheers,

Ian
