I think the problem is solved !!!

I did as you suggested and zipped to the SC7 server\plugin directories.
However what happen was that there was an additional plugin directory
within the plugin directory that was empty. The AAC files were copied
there but I moved them into the main server - plugin directory and
DELETED the empty directory that had been there since installation ?!!
I restarted SC7 and hey presto there is a PLUGINS AAC entry under
Plugins tab and appearing within the Logging tab. 

AND THERE IS ALSO AN ALIENBBC ENTRY appearing under logging for the
first time and no 404 message.

I havent tried it under the SB and will do that tomorrow but I think
that it was all to do with a blank plugin folder within the server -
plugin directories.
