If you instead of "BAND" enter "WM/BAND" in your taggning software SqueezeCenter seems to really treat it as a BAND tag. If this is the only thing you like to accomplish you probably don't even need the Custom Scan plugin, it should be enough with the Custom Browse plugin to create the Bands menu.
I'm not sure if "WM/BAND" will cause problem with other softwares, but it seems to work correctly together with SqueezeCenter. "WM/BAND" is not a standard WMA tag, I think the WMA standard only specifies a "ALBUMARTIST" tag and no "BAND" tag but I'm not completely sure. If you want to catch "WM/BAND" in Custom Scan, you should enter just "BAND" in the Custom Scan configuration. If you like to catch the tag you have entered as "BAND" in your tagging editor, it should be entered as "ALBUMARTIST" in Custom Scan.
