Since SB2 is the same as an SB3 and Alien play OK on SB2 - your problem is with the SB3 and its SC connection and nothing to do with Alien or mplayer.
My guess is wireless connection is not good enough for Flac - try disabling in Setting/Advanced/Filetype RTSP->WAV and RTSP->FLAC (i.e only RTSP_>MP3 is enabled.).
