So do you have two versions of mplayer - one at /usr/local/bin/mplayer
and one at /Applications/MPlayer
OSX.app/Contents/Resources/External_Binaries/mplayer.app/Contents/MacOS/mplayer?

if you open a terminal window and type "/usr/local/bin/mplayer" or
"/Applications/MPlayer
OSX.app/Contents/Resources/External_Binaries/mplayer.app/Contents/MacOS/mplayer"
and press return it should tell you what version of mplayer it is.
