It's not drift per se. It's more likely that your non SB player has buffered up so much data ahead of AlienBBC (typically about 3-5 minutes)that acknowledgements are not being sent backto BBC from AlienBBC - ack are only sent when music has been played. If no acks have been received by server after 3 minutes connections is reset.
