I think the issue is more one of trust, rather than actual security risk. It's not like the password will be stored anywhere...the user enters it, the system call is made, the variable holding the password is cleared. And for folks who will have a healthy suspicion seeing a request for user credentials in this context...I'll provide an alternate method.
