AlienBBC live RealAudio streams are only 48kbps but by default are transcoded into Flac which can be a strain on some user networks which could result in stuttering / rebuffering. Since all live BBC national station can use WMA - there is little point to using RealAudio streams unless you know it is the BBC WMA streams network that is at fault.
If you are in the UK the BBC WMA streams (More Radio / BBC ) are about 128kbps - you should be using these. If you are getting rebuffering.stuttering then it is your WLAN, network setup, ISP or BBC.
