I don't know about Mac but the jnlp should have been opened using Java
Webs start and not saved.

When you clicked on the "Click to install and run SoftSquyeeze" were
you given an options by a browser dialog box.
"Open" and option with Java/OpenJava WebStart
"Save File"

If you weren't given the option to open/run the jnlp file, it seems the
browser is either not set up to do Web Start or perhaps not allowing a
Web Start application to be run (e.g. a secruity setting).
