Well I can tell you that the MIP plugin and the Sugarcube are mutually exclusive and dont touch each other at all.
SugarCube does obviously utilise utf8 and I guess something has changed with the Squeeze Unicode utf8 de/encoding functions that is breaking it. I think I'll stick with 7.3.x for the time being, it was painful enough fixing this the first time around!
