So there is a woraround for this: Play the stream you want to listen too on the player & then set the alarm using "current playlist" as the alarm. This will store the stream including enough information to restart it in the alarm handler.
The issue here is that alarms do not support the extended format supported by favorites for playing iplayer stations. This requires both a url and a "parser" to be stored.
