I wonder if it's anything to do with the playlists not having been updated on Spotify. I'd created a few in the Spotify client application and then gone into the Squeezebox web interface to try and play them on my Classic player. The new playlists were not shown earlier when it wasn't working, but now that it is working it's listing the new playlists.
