I did look at your xml and it was fine. You do need to be connected to your local server for the initial install and to update the Controller with a new configuration. Once you have done that though it is cached on the Controller so you can connect to whatever you want thereafter. In my defence the installation intructions do say as much although I must admit they are a little rambling!
