How much power does your PC use when it is running? If the PC is sufficiently "green", I suggest leaving it running 24x7 and don't mess with suspend/resume. Simpler is better.
I have a VortexBox Appliance with a dual-core 1.6 GHz Atom processor and a 2 TB Western Digital hard drive, and I leave it on 24x7. At full power, it uses 25 Watts.
