I've been getting the same error message having just signed-up to a free trial of Spotify Premium. Have you had any further luck with this?
Initially I couldn't get the helper app running but changing fire wall settings sorted this. I'm running LMS version 7.7.1. V frustrating but hopefully I will get it sorted but my knowledge of this subject is limited!
