Adam, Good post. I read through the thread you linked to and couldn't
draw any conclusion about how the problem was solved.
I don't have the problem, but I checked my plugin settings - Settings,
Plugins, Spicefly SugarCube, and I have SQLite Timout set to 35 seconds
and Enable Delay Mode set to 2 . I have a low power server with a big
library and cache on RAMDisk.

I recall that there was discussion at some time that on lower powered or
busy servers that SugarCube may not have given MIP time to return a good
result, hence the ability to set a slight delay.

Also, make sure that by player - Settings, Player, SugarCube - that the
"Available MIP" genres, Artists and filters are set to (None).

Using the web UI with the SugarCube Live View shows how the parameters
affect the selection of tracks, and clicking the >> button after 10
seconds of playing will skip to the next track and show how the playlist
is evolving. You could also try Freestyle Mix and Vintage Mode - both of
these options have been added since the thread you linked to in your
post.
