My guess is that it's just a coincidence. You could try running Apple's Network Diagnostics to see if there are any issues with the network. As for menu.opml, just search for it and you will find files to download. Replace the existing file , whose location is given in post #8, with the new one. You need toehold the Option key, while using the Finder's Go menu to get to your Library.
