I just noticed something odd. Whenever smart mix kicks in, it always returns artists starting with the letter A (ABBA, Amy Winehouse, AC/DC, etc).
Are you using any music service or local music only? Can you reliably reproduce this? If so: please enable debugging for smartmix, run a mix, then send me the server.log file.
