I just discovered *Subsonic*. It's a separate server software that
allows remote and onsite access to your music library with a variety of
software players that cover all the bases (iOS, Windows, Chrome,
Android, Mac).

The server itself is pretty inexpensive and some apps are free and some
are available at low cost.

It seems to run fine with LMS too. It seems pretty fast too, scanning
over 300,000 files in less than an hour. You can set it to scan once a
day.

With Subsonic you can access your music library onsite and offsite.
With LMS you can use your hardware and software players on site and
probably offsite too but I have never really figured that detail out.
Maybe someone will chime in with that info :)

With D-Sub, an Android app, you can even Chromecast your music library.

You can also provide other folks access to your library and limit their
access to whatever is appropriate (listen only, listen and download,
etc.)
