A BSD license is even more permissive than the LGPL. You can do whatever you want with the code (sell it, give it away, modify it, etc.). You just can't remove the copyright notice.
One of the reasons I'm switching is that I have received numerous requests from people to use a different license because various organizations have made rules prohibiting the use of any GPL licensed software in their products---regardless of the fact that the LGPL is already rather permissive (allowing commercial use for instance). Rather than fight that battle, it's easier for me to just switch the license---I always intended for people to use PLY however they wanted anyways.
