You need the wiki.d in order to store pages in pmwiki but that shouldn¹t be
a problem for your host. My host has no problems with it and in fact have
wiki installers, not Pmwiki ;-( so it seems strange that they would restrict
that. If pernmissions are managed well then there should be no problems
