I figured something out - if I use the (:pmcal styles=:) my calendar gets displayed properly, even though I didn't need that before the blogit install. But I'm happy, everything seems to be back in order on my site. If anyone is interested in looking into this more let me know, I'm going to turn diagnostics off in the meantime.
