I just installed 2.2.101 and thought I would give Worse a try. Worse seems to
replace variables with the value in the save.

I have a block in WikiSandbox

This site is running {$Version}
Displays:
This site is running pmwiki-2.2.101

Changed to:
(:worse:)
This site is running {$Version}
(:worseend:)
Displays:
This site is running pmwiki-2.2.101

Edit block via Worse shows:

This site is running pmwiki-2.2.101
Edited:
This site is running pmwiki-2.2.101\\

Saved shows:
This site is running pmwiki-2.2.101\\

Back to page Edit:
(:worse:)
This site is running pmwiki-2.2.101\\
(:worseend:)

I hope that makes sense.

The current version doesn't warn in some cases of errors or failures
(yet). The wiki is configured to require an author name and when the
Author field was empty the Demo silently failed to save the page,
without warning.

Sorry if you unsuccessfully have tried to edit. The Demo should now be
editable: $EnablePostAuthorRequired set to 0 until the recipe is fixed.
