Have many podcasts just been fads? Audiocasting has been around a long
time but since podcasting took off as the latest new interesting internet
technology it may have had a short life. Much of it anyway. That part of
it that is being cranked out by amateurs. Radio stations have been
producing their own podcasting with much of it coming from public radio
and some PRI recordings are excellent. I'd be satisfied with just them if
there wasn't anything else. However, the problem I have and I'm certain
others too have is trying to listen to toooooo much. You can't do it.
Eventually you pick your favorites. I have mine: To the Point, Left, Right
and Center, Open Source, Focus, Life on Earth, Seti, Newsweek, Grok,
(all the science podcasts), Unwanted Guests (one of my favorites),
Late Night Live (Australia),Forum, and more; and I have my favorite states
where these can be downloaded. None of the charge anything and I don't
expect they will.

Radio talk, both right and left - including XM are down charging for their
downloads (downloads are audio-casts a/k/a podcasts). Greed is driving
them. Maybe socially aware and politically progressive types really have
to latch on to any vehicle they can get to get their message out - but
don't call Air America progressive or liberal when it denies it's most
needy, least able to pay, the true masses, from getting that message. And
those are the ones with 56K dialups and can't get live radio and work
(maybe more than one job) and if they have a computer at all and there are
groups which are promoting computer literacy for the poor and helping them
to get refurbished equipment -- then for them the only way to listen to
talk radio is from downloads which they can listen to later on that
computer or on an mp3 recorder. Retirees are on limited budgets and often
can only listen for free on downloaded files. BUT, now having to pay is
cutting them all off. SO, I am boycotting Air America and the Young Turks
(if I ever listened to them before -- only a few times) and anybody else
on the left that charge. --- And I definitely think that for Al Franken to
receive 3,000,000 a year in salary from Air America is obscene and I'm not
paying for it.

Are podcasting becoming fads? Are they a fad? Do you listen to them?
