Escuse my typos. I meant fallen. You knew that.
Bush Threatens to Veto Congressional Efforts to Block Port Sale
It seems amazing that we can have a President so disinterested in
governing that he has never vetoed a bill. Never in five years. I'll say
it again - five years in office, zero vetoes.
Now, he is threatening to use his first veto. So what is this special evil
bill that Congress is trying to pass? Cloning? Human-animal hybrids?
Mandatory viewing of 'The Bachelor' for everyone over 18? No.
In the face of growing Republican opposition, President Bush today
threatened to veto any congressional effort to block a deal that will
allow an Arab company to take over the management of six major U.S.
seaports, saying that any attempt to scuttle the arrangement would send "a
terrible signal to friends around the world."
Bush spoke twice about the matter this afternoon, first aboard Air
Force One as he flew back to the White House from Colorado, and again on
the South Lawn after he landed.
The president's unusually heated remarks appeared designed to head off
a groundswell of opposition to the deal, including from House Speaker J.
Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, two usually reliable
White House allies.
Bush talks tough about national security - but in issues like this, he
shows his true colors. He obviously does not care about national
security. He is not serious about national security, or the protection of
American citizens.
Why do I say this?
Because, handing the ports over to a company sponsored by the United Arab
Emirates, a country with troubling ties to terrorism would be the exact
opposite of protecting US citizens. Instead, it would be putting American
citizens in unnecessary danger just to make the UAE a quick buck.
Write to your local Representative and Senator and tell them about your
concerns of putting "one of three countries in the world to recognize the
Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan" in control of our
nation's ports.
