No Reform for Islam

The publicity about Abdul Rahman's conversion to Christianity and Afghan
justice, postponed for the moment because of politics but still Islamic
law and the practice in the Islamic world. It happened in "Palestine" in
2003 and someone really died because they converted to Christianity.
Apostasy is a crime and Islamic law prohibits it. Abdul Rahman may not die
so soon but make no mistake about it, he is guilty and these are the laws
which bind Muslim governments.

In Islam infidels are considered enslaved and it is Islam that frees them.
But, in my view, Charles is right about religion - that it enslaves - It
is just some religions enslave more than others. And I would add that
jihad-ist Islamic religion claims to liberate by freeing believers to go to
heaven, and those who do so as martyrs with their 72 virgins waiting for
them and it is really their ignorance as Muslims which "enslaves" them by
their "submission" to Allah and the intractable laws of Islam. (Islam
means submission).

I recommend the writings of Ibn Warraq, who writes about why he is not a
Muslim. I've posted his work here before. As he points out in his writing
about apostasy, that it is like treason and an ideological treachery which
has been punished (for 13 centuries) since Islam was established by
Muhammad and while the Koran says that there is freedom of belief it is a
fiction to think so.

In Islam they are considered enslaved as infidels, whether they are
Christians, Jews or Pagans, and it is Islam, they believe, which saves
them.

Abdul Rahman received his dispensation from the Karzai Government and will
escape death for now. They said he must be crazy. But the law has not
changed and there is no indication that the laws of Islam will be
repudiated nor will they be reformed. Even secular regimes contain a
strong undercurrent which is loyal to Islam's Koranic laws.

Koran 4:89 states the punishment for apostasy is death:

"They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so
that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them
friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn
back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take
not from among them a friend or a helper."

Koran commentator Baydawi (d. 1315/16)
    interprets this passage thus:

"Whosoever turns back from belief (irtada), openly or secretly, take
him and kill him wheresoever ye find him, like any other infidel.
Separate yourself from him altogether. Do not accept intercession in
his regard" (cited in Zwemer, The Law of Apostasy in Islam, 1924, pp.
      33-34)."

Other venerated commentators concur.

" ....as the un-believers have manifested their unbelief, they
    should be punished by death..."
