Polar Bears and then Us
- (and why I am an Existentialist)
Does anyone here care that the polar bears are becoming extinct because of
catastrophic climate change? Extremes which we have caused which is now
causing the planet to heat up. I will miss them the polar bears. I wonder
how long it will take for us also to also disappear?
I say that with some confidence (that we will also become extinct) and
I'll tell you why. While the earth has been through extreme climate
alterations for billions of years, consider the fact that for only about
13,000 years the earth has been stable enough for human beings to invent
civilization and create societies. We had a relatively short run
considering life has been around a lot longer than that and humanoids have
been around much longer also, but as different species (See Lucy, Peking
Man and Java Man - and other proof) -- and as hunter-gatherers.
And I have confidence that even after we spoil the environment enough to
cause our own extinction other species will evolve and run their course in
a much different bio-environment. For those who think there is purpose in
any of this, please explain to me what and why you think so?
Hank
