Radical Evolutionists believe it is and there is plenty of evidence to
prove that the brain is changing more rapidly than originally assumed.
Perhaps Steven Pinker is wrong (you all have read Steven Pinker, right?)
who hypothesized that our brains have not changed much for 100,000 years -
but some new research would indicate that that may not be true and
actually CULTURE has had a _selective_ influence on the brain and a lot of
that change then has occurred over the last 1000 years or so.
So what do you think of dem apples?
Jonathan Pritchard, an evolutionary biologist from the U of Chicago, says
that the time scale for a mutation to do its thing is about 5,000 years.
In some animal life we have seen fairly rapid selection but up to now most
scientists thought humans shifted slower than a few thousand years, more
in the range of 10000 or more years. I wonder if the climate stability of
the last 10-13,000 years happened too soon for evolution of our species to
be equiped for it -- that is, we are environmentally more advanced but
intellectually lagging behind - as evidenced by some of the damage we have
done?
But if we have attained a level of understanding for changing our genes
that exceeds Darwinian evolution we could determine our futures in far
greater ways than almost anyone now imagines.
For those who want to try to get through this scientifc paper the link the
fascinating thesis is :: http://tinyurl.com/ox736
